Biomedical Sciences is a two year master program in English at Radboud University.

Biomedical Sciences program will give you the opportunity to construct your own programme based on personal academic and professional interests. Choosing this program, you will have the possibility of specialising in any aspect of biomedical sciences from molecule, to man, to population.

The program has 6 specializations: Clinical Human Movement Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Technology Assessment, Human Health Risk Assessment, Human Pathobiology, Human Toxicology

Clinical Human Movement Sciences (CHMS) emphasis on rehabilitations science. It involves research on the physiological and physical aspects of human movements including the determinants of health and disease in the human locomotor apparatus and associated tissues. The results form the basis for remedial therapies.

Epidemiology is the science that studies the occurrence of disease in human populations and its determining factors. It is frequently referred to as 'occurrence research'. The epidemiologist may conduct this type of research in the field of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, infectious diseases or any other disease in a specific field of determinants such as microorganisms, diet, occupation or genetics. The results are used to plan health services and to devise strategies for the prevention and control of diseases.

Health technology assessment (HTA) involves research into the effectiveness, safety, costs, and the appropriateness of medical interventions in order to give policymakers and practitioners evidence-based choices in health services and patient care. The aim is to discover what interventions are effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, what strategies are effective in the early detection of breast cancer, how helicopter emergency medical service can be optimised, and so forth.

Human Health Risk Assessment (HRA)- Research in this specialisation is on risk assessment in occupational and environmental health, in accidents and disasters and in patient care. This specialisation is one of the few programmes in Europe launched from a health perspective. (Other programmes are embedded in an environmental science or technological faculty.)

Human Pathobiology investigates the biological mechanisms underlying human disease. The aim of this specialization is to develop the medicines of the future. These 'medicines' can be on the level of prevention, treatment and repair.

Toxicology combines the elements of many scientific disciplines to study the adverse effects of chemical agents on living organisms, including the prevention and amelioration of such adverse effects. The main aim of this specialization is to assess limits and define conditions at which chemical agents can be used, without hazards to human health. Such limits form the basis for protective regulation by law.
