Graphic Design is a master program in English at Avans University. This program aims teaching a design method, independent of medium or trends. The underlying idea is that graduates should be able to function on a strategic level where they can act as equal discussion partners of clients and thus take responsibility for a design from its strategy and concept development up to its execution. This Master course trains its students in applying various design methods that correspond to different design contexts, after which they gradually focus on the context and design method of their choice.
The programme is designed around the individual student's educational needs. They get introduced to design methods and design contexts. They devise your own study plan and carry it out, next to attending assignments focussing on visual argumentation, analysis, teamwork, and testing of design proposals. In the last semester they work on publishing their graduation paper and the results of their individual research.
The Master of Graphic Design works closely with the research group Visual Rhetoric of Graphic Design and with organisations such as the municipality of Breda, MOTI Museum of the Image Breda, Tilburg University and Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Zürich.
