Avans University of Applied Sciences was founded on 1 January 2004 following a merger of Hogeschool Brabant and Hogeschool 's-Hertogenbosch. Avans stands for:

Avans Univeristy is located in three cities in the southern part of the Netherlands:

• Breda
• 's-Hertogenbosch
• Tilburg

At Avans University of Applied Sciences, around 29,500 students study 48 different courses. 2,800 employees work at 21 schools, 4 support services units and 1 centre for learning and innovation.


We are immensely proud that Avans University of Applied Sciences has once again been proclaimed the best major university of applied sciences in the Netherlands. Every year, the Dutch Centre for Higher Education Information examines the quality of higher education in the Full-time Higher Professional Education Options Guide 2015. The international study programmes of Avans are amongst the best in the Netherlands.

Avans once again has been ranked the top large university of applied sciences in the Netherlands by leading higher education guide Keuzegids Hbo. Avans has been in the top 3 for 8 years and occupies the top position for the fifth time.
